Hi - I think it was a terrific form of birth control - I've had the saf-t-coil and 3 copper 7's (I don't think these are available anymore) and yes, did have heavier periods and some cramping, especially with the saf-t-coil before I had kids. The copper 7 was better, but I still had to take motrin the first day or two. BUT, I was highly motivated to not use pills and not get pregnant and not be celibate. This was a great, sexually nonintrusive method for me. (You might want to take some motrin an hour before insertion - that's a little crampy, too.)
