The depo-provera has been around for >20 years in other countries, and is one of the best studied hormonal contraceptives available. You have several choices, and your choice depends largely on personal preference and whether you want it get pregnant at some point, and if so, when. There is an oral progesterone very much like Depo and Norplant, there is a whole new generation of OCPs that are very low dose. OTC methods are very user dependent, and even in the best of hands are weaker than hormonal methods. The IUD is a great choice for non-hormonal, long term, very effective contraception.
