Joyce,

I wanted to thank you for the information you gave me, I really appreciated it...those pamphlets just don't have all the information you really want to know at times and that website was great. I also wanted to wish you all the best with your own upcoming hysterectomy. Thanks again!

One question for the docs though...with 40 mg daily of megestrol, could it affect my cycle to the point that I skip one?

I recently had a CT Scan done and the report said that my uterus was very enlarged and was highly suspicious for malignancy. I was concerned about the possibility because there's alot of cancer in my family and my abdomen hardens occasionally, usually after anything small, even a glass of water, heavy irregular periods, clotting, fatigue, pain that radiates to my lower back. When I had the appt with our ob/gyn, they said it was definitely very enlarged (well above the belly button) and ran several tests and put me on 40 mg of Megestrol daily. The tests came back negative for infections & endometrial cancer. They think it's adenomyosis and suggested a total abdominal hysterectomy. (Uterus was same size several weeks later, so I was told it wouldn't be possible to do a vaginal hysterectomy). I was also told the ovaries weren't able to been seen very well, which is another reason they want to do it abdominally. My question is since I have an office job, will I really need to take 4 weeks off? Also,if an ultrasound which was done about a month ago showed normal uterus (though it did hurt for the first time ever and it wasn't a transvaginal ultrasound either!) is it normal for it to have enlarged this quickly? I appreciate any help at all. Thanks in advance.
