Feedback desired--hysterectomy for prolapse, dysmenorrhea, past endometriosis

I'm 37 years old and in good health. I am also a healthcare worker. My gyn and I have kicked around the idea of hysterectomy for a number of years because I had requested it.

Since the start of my period at age 14, I've had severely painful periods. Birth control pills (orth novum) controlled the pain most of the time. Over the years, I've had to take increasing amounts of ibuprofen for pain. I was also beginning to experience pain during orgasms the week prior to my periods starting. Additionally, I would experience pain during intercourse as something inside was being "banged". A laparoscopy performed 6 years ago included ablation for a small amount of endometreosis and ablation severing nerves to the lower uterus was performed to help eliminate pain.

The mentrual pains eventually returned. The pains during orgasm were eliminated. The pains and sensations of something being bumped during intercourse increased over the years. This year, the duration and blood volume of periods increased. Because of an increasing occurance of headaches and continued cramping, my gyn had me try a different birth control pill (low ogestrel) for three months to help reduce mentrual migraines and to reduce blood volume. During this time, the period duration and blood volume continued to increase.

During a followup visit, my gyn discussed D&C, uterine ablation and tubal ligation or hysterectomy. I also have uterine prolapse, but haven't had children and am not obese. I have long decided not to have children, so that is not a concern. I am however researching the pros and cons of hysterectomies in incidents such as mine. I am comfortable with having a hysterectomy, but am wanting to be fully informed before proceeding.
