perimenapauseFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSun, 9 Sep 2001 16:32:57 EDT
Hello, I am 43 years old and have begun to have very long lapse in time between cycles. Before this, I have always ran a 30 day cycle almost every month. Looking back in my journal, I have had night sweats and hot flashes for quite awhile. Here is my question: I had a partial hysterectomy in 1988, removal of one ovary and both of my tubes. I have been menstruating for 30 years, very heavy cycles. Is it possible that at 43 I am in perimenopause? I am making an appointment with my doctors partner who is female to check my FSH levels etc. But I wanted to see if I could get a professional opinion before going. I wanted a chance to educate myself and to see what treatment plans are available. Because I have Acute Intermittent Porphyria, HRT is not an option. I was hoping for good results with Wild Yam and or Black Cohosh. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I appreciate any opinion you may have. Respectfully, Katherine Piehl
