I'm not sure how you would be able to tell the difference between GERD and Barret's esophogus(sp). I have found that Nexium or Prilosec really help me with my symptoms of GERD. I was diagnosed with GERD/Acid Reflux about 5 years ago. My suggestion is that if you are really concerned, talk to your dr about it. Depending on how long you've had gerd, your age and how long you've received treatment you may have a risk for Barret's. Also I have been told That Nexium or Prilosec (same company makes them) helps reverse Barrett's esophagus. This might be a medicine worth talking to your doctor about. I hope this helps in some way. Take Care and God Bless, AJ
