Uterine FibroidsFrom: Jenna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Aug 2001 22:03:09 -0500 (CDT)
I am 48 years old and have always had regular periods with only mild cramps - no heavy bleeding or spotting between periods. Last week at the end of my period, I was hospitalized for two days with high fever, abdominal pain, severe backache and a high white count. After two ultrasounds and a CT scan, my general physician and the surgeon who was monitoring me (they initially thought it may be appendicitis) said the pain was from a uterine fibroid (size of a large orange) and recommended a total hysterectomy immediately or in the near future. I also have a cyst the size of a lime on my cervix. They recommended a gynecologist examine me. He said to wait two months and do another ultrasound to see if the fibroid had grown. I have frequent urination, constipation and feeling bloated and tired. I have never had children and don't plan to. Any recommendations?
