[Birth Control] Atrophic Endometrium & Endometrial PolypFrom: Tedi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 22 Aug 2001 18:03:12 -0500 (CDT)
I am 55 years old (overweight) (history of fibroids). Transvaginal ultrasound 7/31/01: enlarged uterus; multiple fibroids (largest 5 mm (same as last year); hypoechoic nodule (consistent w/submucosal fibroid); endometrial strip 5 cm. After years of normal periods, the following has occurred: Period: 3/21/01-3/25/01; Staining: 4/2/01-4/8/01; 4/30/01-5/8/01; Periods: 5/17/01-5/30/01; 6/15/01/-6/22/01; and 7/14/01/-7/23/01; I have not gotten a period in August yet (usually never late) (no more staining). As of 6/26/01, my FSH, etc. did not even indicate that I was perimenopausal. I had an endometrial biopsy 8/10/01. Results: endometrial polyp and atrophic endometrium (no sign of hyperplasia or cancer). I am scheduled for a hysterogram in two weeks. The gyn wants to make sure all of polyp was swept away in biopsy and to check for submucosal fibroid; other fibroids; and contour of uterus. First, what is an atrophic endometrium? Can it be a problem knowing the above? Does it seem necessary to do the hysterogram (heard it was very uncomfortable)? Could I be peri-menopausal with normal FSH, etc. numbers? Is there are chance that the gyn is still looking for hyperplasia or cancer (may not want to worry me yet). Thanks for your help.
