Re: coccyx pain for no apparent reason

I call this problem a "pain in the butt!" My doctor refers to it as a migraine of the butt. But the medical terminology for this condition is "Proctalgia Fugax." It usually hits me at 2:00 in the morning and wakes me up with horrible pain. I try walking it out which usually doesn't help. A heating pad helps some. The doctor gave me levsin, which if taken when the symptoms first start, can sometimes prevent it from getting worse. If the levsin does not work, I take librax which is a muscle relaxer for the colon. And if the librax does not work and I am in absolute agony, I take B and O suppositories which usually work in about 30 minutes. However, the Belladona and Opium knocks me out for about 2 days. But it is worth it to get relief. From what I read about the condition, it is only supposed to last 30 to 45 minutes. However, when I get it, it lasts much longer. Sometimes I get it during the day, but most of the time it strikes at night. It seems like it happens from out of the blue. However, I notice that most of the time it happens after I have had a very stressful day. I would go to a Gastroenterologist about it to make sure that is definitely what it is and there is not some other problem causing it. And if it is what you have, you can get treated for it.
