IUD induced MenorrhagiaFrom: Amie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 7 Aug 2001 14:12:25 -0500 (CDT)
I've had an IUD for 15 months. Prior to insertion periods were regular although I was breastfeeding. Periods last 7+ days and are very heavy and bright red except for the first day or so. Cramps are not a problem. I've tried supplements, esp. vit. e and have gotten some relief...but not enough. It was suggested that I try Mircette. I'm concerned about breast cancer (close family history) so I have not tried the pill. Previously I was on the pill for 8 years (started due to irregular periods) and have been off for 5. My doc also mentioned that he didn't want to remove my IUD "just in case" I could tolerate the side effects (which is the reason I haven't taken them yet). If i were to take the pill along with the IUD, would I have to have to take it forever? Also, why would I bother to keep the IUD if I had to use the pill? I also have severe PMDD and my doc suggested I think of the pill as "PMS control", not birth control. Another doc suggested I try ponstel for the menorrhagia and wellbutrin for the PMDD (since prozac has bad side effects for me) if I didn't want to use Mircette. Would the pill really be a simple answer to all these problems? Thanks alot!
