Ovarian Cysts and Birth Contol Pills questionFrom: Victoria (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 29 Jul 2001 10:43:03 -0700 (PDT)
I am 22 years old, and have had problems with ovarian cysts for the past two years. The first one was on the right side, and ruptured (no surgery was done), but an ultrasound looked normal. I had been on Orthro-Tri-Cyclen until then, but was switched to Mircette to try to prevent another cyst from forming. Then about 8 months ago, another cyst formed (left side), and eventually dissolved. Again, the ultrasound looked normal. Then I was pur on Lo-Ovaraol28 (a much higher dose Pill), thinking this would help the formation of the cysts. I also talked to my OBGYN about skipping every other period, which seemed to work for a while. Now, I'm starting to have the pain (left side) that's been characteristic of cysts. It hasn't gotten to the stage where it hurts to move, with sharp pain, I'm just trying to be proactive. Is there any way that the pills are causing the cysts to grow? I'm sure the last two cysts were functional, but I'm concerned that this one is more serious. Should I keep on the Pill? Also, I had a benign fibro abenoma removed from one of my breasts a little over a year ago. Could this be related to my ovarian cysts? I'm heading to the doctor soon, and I want to be prepared with any questions, and have as much information as possible about the topic. Thank you in advance to anyone who responds!! ===== Normal people believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.
