Provera to stop bleeding

Last Monday night I was soaking through a pad/every 20 minutes and was on day 17 of a cycle. I was on vacation so I went to the emergency room. A TV ultrasound detected a thickening of the endometrial stripe and fluid in the uterine cavity. The ER doc called the Gyn on call and together they prescribed 10 mg of Provera three times a day. The doc told me it should stop the bleeding. It hasn't. It stopped the hemmoraging, but I am still bleeding like a moderate period. Is this normal? I have an appointment with my gyn for July 30 to discuss a different problem. Should I go in to be seen sooner? (I'm on day 22 of bleeding now?) What does it mean if the Provera doesn't stop the bleeing?

Thank you for your help
