Abn pap, ammenorhea, etc.From: Julia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 20 Jul 2001 08:44:57 -0500 (CDT)
Hi. I am a 21 year old female. I was put on oral contraceptives in the summer of 1998 for reasons of suspected endometriosis. I was switched in February of 2001 to a progesterone only pill because I was having OCP induced hypertension, dizziness, and headaches. After about 2 months (in April) of the progesterone only pill I stopped taking it also because of other side effects- acne, vaginal dryness, and weight gain. I did not have my period while on this pill. I had what I thought was my first period since, in May. It was not a normal period for me, the first day being extremely heavy. We're talking sit on a toilet and fill the bowl with blood in five minutes. It lasted for two more days after that, which were extremely light. It's been two months again and I have not had another period. In the middle of June my doctor called me and told me I had an "abnormal pap smear with unidetified cells." I am scheduled soon for a colposcopy. But I am very nervous, usually my doctor is very reassuring. The nurse didn't give me much of an idea of what could be wrong, she just said the doctor "likes to be careful." Now my lymph nodes are swollen, my abdomen cramps every now and then, and I've been very fatigued lately. Could nothing be wrong? Or if something could be wrong, what are the possibilities? I appreciate your help
