Menopause and thyroid diseaseFrom: Dora (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 16 Jul 2001 12:33:03 -0500
Since February of this year I have been going thru all kinds of symptoms of menopause and thyroid disease. I was diagnosed by my OB-GYN as being in menopause and I have been taking "Mircette" for 3 months know and it has helped with the hot flashes for a while but they are now returning. I also had tests done for my thyroid and have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, my TSH levels are constantly low at 0.03. I have been seeing an endocrinologist that does not want to put me on any thyroid drugs because he thinks it will correct itself eventually. Well, it's been 5 months and still I have palpitations ( I am taking metoprolol for them), I have gained 18 pounds in this time period and I do watch my diet and exercise 5 times a week. My question is, could my thyroid levels be effected by menopause. If so should I consider HRT, would that make me feel better? Appreciate your time and answer. Thank you, Dora Cabrera :-)
