Malaria as a child/ Miscarriage as an adult linkFrom: Ali (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 5 Jul 2001 23:13:28 -0500 (CDT)
When I was 10 I contracted malaria. Part of the symptoms was I had a very high fever of 106. 15 years later I had 4 miscarriages within 18 months. I had all medical tests done as is usual including blood tests of my husband following the 3rd miscarriage which all came back as normal. I gave up trying after 4. I did research at the time and found an obscure book that suggested that successive miscarriages may result when women had malaria as a pre-pubescent. The theory was that the high fever 'overcooked' the eggs in the ovaries. Thereafter the eggs were damaged could never be fertilised properly. I now want to try to start a family again. I am now 38. I would like to know if anyone else has heard of this theory. My doctor and specialist have never heard of it and I cannot find anything on the internet.
