Doctors please be honest...can someone with PCOS ever get rid of these horrible symptoms?

I've read the stuff in the PCOS forum, and it's depressing. Women who have been in treatment for years and still are obese, have facial hair, skin tags, etc.

Personally, I've been taking 2000 mg a day of Glucophage for months and I've seen no improvement. My bloodwork has actually gotten worse. I eat minimal carbs and my total caloric load is 1500. And I exercise every day. I'm still overweight and my skin is a nightmare. I'm being supervised by an incredible, highly recommended (by my OB/GYN) endocrinologist.

My testosterone has increased by 20 "points" and I only have one ovary. How is this possible? I've been tested for Cushings multiples times (negative), and my ACTH level is normal. There is bloodwork being processed to check my DHEAS, ANDRO and free testosterone. My endocrinologist is hoping to find a mass in my ovary or my adrenal glands. I never thought I would be happy to find a tumor, but at least that can be treated.

Please be candid. I'm looking for clinical observations of patients who have improved with PCOS. What treatments do you see that work?

I just feel like the current medical treatments are ineffective. I don't have any hope that I'll get my body back. I don't know how to have any type of self worth when I have real reasons to hate my body.

Can any of you offer practical hope?
