bleeding for 5 weeks is definitley not normal.

it sounds like you are not ovulating -- and there are many possible reasons for this (too thin, too fat, polycystic ovarian syndrome, thyroid imbalance, etc, etc). this abnormal bleeding does need to be evaluated. Get a copy of your old records so your new doctor can see what has been done before, too,
