Taking calcium is causing kidney problems..HELP!From: maggie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 29 Jun 2001 10:15:37 -0500 (CDT)
Today June 29 (my birthday today), i am 42 yrs old..I have severe osteoporosis. I was instructed by my gyno doc to take 1500mg of calcium a day. I tried this dosage, and even went to a lesser dosage, but ANY time i ingest calcium, i get kidney discomfort bad, sometimes infections. I saw a kidney specialist and he tells me i have build up of calcium in my kidneys. Is there another way to help my osteoporosis? I beleive the calcium is NOT absorbing correctly in my body, resulting in the kidney problems.. I already am on HRT for perimenopause, and eat a diet high in calcium, however my bones still hurt, pop and ache... I tried fosamax miacalcin, evista and actonel and had problems with these meds so the docs stopped them. Theres got to be a way to assimilate calcium in the body where it would absorb better....Would you know? Or is there something else to help my bones...? I exercise quite frequently (3 or 4 times a week) but i cannot drink milk or dairy products because they too cause the kidneys to hurt..thanks for any replies......
