Re: Katharine who replied to my blood clot post...From: Katherine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Jun 2001 17:06:38 -0500 (CDT)
Terry, I'm not at all sure that our situations are alike, but I will try to help by telling you what happened with me. I had pulmonary emboli in my lungs due to a large, deep blood clot in my right thigh. This happened very suddenly. At the time, I had 5 month sized fibroids, which I had hoped would shrink with menopause so I didn't have to have surgery. I did have very heavy bleeding and was extremely anemic, which I didn't realize til I was admitted into the hospital. In the end, the specialists' best guess about why I had the blood clot was that one of my fibroids, which was outside my uterus and attached by a stalk, pressed on a pelvic vein and caused the blood clot. In the end, I had a hysterectomy to remove the fibroids. I also was tested extensively for any kind of genetic blood disorder that would have caused the blood clots, but all the tests came back negative. As I say, I'm not sure that our histories are alike. I only wanted to say, in my original message, that blood clots are serious things to deal with. Hope this helps,
-- Katherine
