Missed Periods - Why?From: Jolene (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 25 Jun 2001 10:07:37 -0500 (CDT)
I am 26 years old and my periods have always been pretty much regular. Until now anyway. My last period was April 15. At first I thought there was a chance that I was pregnant, but that has since been ruled out. So now I'm wondering why I haven't had a period in so long. I saw my doctor last week and she wanted to rule out pregnancy before she gives me progesterone to start my period. But I'm wondering what the cause is. I know stress and exercise affects menstrual cycles. I haven't been under any stress, but I was exercising regularily for over a month around the time of my last period. I went back to my gym and did some aerobic activity, some high impact - but mostly low impact. I also jogged for a couple of weeks. I had been away from exercising for a couple of years and had just gotten back into it. Could that be the cause of my missed periods? I tend to self diagnose myself whenever something is abnormal. Right now I'm telling myself that I could have some kind of uterine or ovarian cancer. I am feeling some new and strange sensations in my ovaries and pelvic area in general. At first, I thought it might just menstrual cramps and I would soon start. I have has cysts on my ovaries in the past, could this be related? If anyone has ever experienced similar symptoms or even if you have some thoughts on what to make sure my doctor looks for... I have little faith in the health care system in my province and I don't think they are thourough enough. So I would like to be thourough for her. Please let me know what you think? Sincerely, Jolene
