I definitely don't think it's too early, particularly since you have a doctor that is willing to do it (often it's the doctors who want to wait longer than the patients).

I had "hostile cervical mucus" when I was trying to get pregnant with my first child and all it took was one cycle of AI to conceive (very lucky). Also, it's a comparatively inexpensive procedure (I think around $600) and some insurances will cover it even if they won't cover in-vitro, etc.

I think anything to increase your changes is worth trying!
