Polycystic Ovaries and TTCFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 16 Jun 2001 22:35:01 -0500 (CDT)
I had a TV ultrasound last week and they found polycystic ovaries. My periods have always been sort of irregular (approx. 9/year, with 6 of them being 28-31 day cycles.) It took me almost 4 years to conceive my son, but we thought that was largely due to a male factor which we have since discovered (happily) is significantly improved. My questions: Do polycystic ovaries by themselves, not as a symptom of PCOS lead to anovulatory cycles? Since we know I don't ovulate every month AND now have the finding of polycystic ovaries, would it be reasonable for me to go right to taking Clomid when I want to start to ttc instead of waiting the year? (I did conceive my son without any intervention.) Since I have irregular periods occasionally is it reasonable to ask my gyn for a standing prescription of provera to start my periods at day 35 (or somewhere near then) after a pregnancy test is negative, every time they are late? Thank you in advance for your help.
