Anyone over 35 who has abnormal uterine bleeding should have a biopsy of the lining of the uterus, to prove the absence of cancer. In the postmenopausal woman (no period for a year), an endometrial thickness of less than 5 mm makes the likelihood of endometrial cancer very low, less than 3 mm is supposed to mean there is no chance at all.
