Ovarian cystFrom: Arch (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 31 May 2001 16:39:33 -0500 (CDT)
I am 25 yrs old and have been on the pill for about a year. Now for the past 8 months, I am trying for a baby. When I went off the pill, my periods were regular for about 4 cycles and after that I have been having very weird periods. I had never had such periods before. Last month I had bleeding for about 16 days and when I met my family practitioner, she asked me to get a pelvic ultrasound. The pelvic ultrasound showed an ovarian cyst, which is small, I don't know the exact dimensions of the cyst. My doctor hasn't given me any medicines nor has she talked to me about the future course of action. She has asked me to wait for another cycle to see how things are. Somehow, I am not satisfied with the response. My concern is will an ovarian cyst affect my chances of getting pregnant ? What kind of specialist can help me in this situation ? This cycle, my periods are delayed by about 2 weeks and when I took a home pregnancy test, it came negative. Could I still be pregnant ? I live in Manhattan, New York. If anyone could give me a reference of a doctor who has experience in treating such cases, please let me know.
