friable cervix - no reason?From: Gigi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 30 May 2001 22:57:34 -0500 (CDT)
after constant spotting for four months, i finally visited a gyn. upon examination, the dr. said my cervix looked fine, there was no reason to suspect any kind of infection and because i had had normal periods in this time, the bleeding must not be hormonally triggered. he said i had what appeared to be a friable cervix. he said there was "brown stuff" when he touched it and he may not be able to get a good read on the pap smear. (please note the exam was done the day before my period was to begin) he gave me OC and said to see if that alleviated the spotting in the next three months. i've done research and it appears to me that a friable cervix would be primarily caused by three things -- an STD, cancer or pregnancy. sincethe STD and pregnancy options do not apply to me ... is cancer the only other culprit? and, if none of the aforementioned apply to me ... what's the cause? i'm in my late 20's, have no children, am in excellent health and have never experienced anything like this before. could the bleeding be hormonal? and could the "brown stuff" he saw be from my soon-to-arrive period? as for options, he started talking about freezing and scabbing ... please tell me there's another option. neither of those sound too pleasant.
