>Hi, My name is Angel. I'm 28 and was diagnosed with prolactinoma 6yrs ago. I see an endocrinologist to monitor this condition. As far as long-term effects go. You won't be able to have kids without medication to lower your prolactin level. Bromocriptine a.k.a. (parlodel, and dostinex are the most common used meds to treat this. It's not cancerous or life threatening in any way. Your dr. should have ordered an MRI upon diagnosis to determine the tumor's size. (micro or macro) You need only to take medication for conception. Once pregnant you stop taking it immediately. However you should have an MRI every year or two to monitor the growth of the tumor. If the tumor enlarges it can affect your peripheral vision. When I was pregnant with my son 4ys ago I had visual fields done every 2wks as oppossed to the MRI. The body's hormone prolactin automatically goes up during pregnancy causing the level to rise higher without use of medication. This was the best option to monitor the tumor while pregnant. After having my son in 98, I didn't take any medication until Nov '00. I started with the dostinex which is much more powerful than the bromocriptine. It took only 2wks to get my level from 174 to 14.We are trying for baby #2 and I'm having an MRI done this week since it's been a few years since the last one. There really isn't a lot of danger involved. If you have any quetions send me an e-mail. anonymous@obgyn.net GOOD LUCK
