Hi, I'm a rape crisis counselor in Colorado. My agency deals with emergency contraception a lot. There is a number you can call to get info, 1-888-NOT-2-LATE or http://www.NOT-2-LATE.com. This will help you find information about where to get EC.

The web site also tells you what combination of birth control pills constitute emergency contraception. Go to the site, click the EC Pills button at the top of the screen. Tell it you are from the United States and it will tell you the combination of pills from the different types of pills. If you don't take birth control pills and you are truely desperate, then ask your friends. They will need to fill their prescription to replace the amount of pill you would need to take so they are not skipping birth control pills.

If none of these places is open, call your local rape crisis hotline and ask them for help. If you called my hotline, I would suggest that you call your local clinics. They should have messages with an after-hours number. Call the number. When you speak to the nurse, doctor, whomever explain the situation. If needed, tell them you will go into the clinic on Tuesday to get checked out.

You can go to the emergency room and wait to be seen if you run out of options. They have to see you, and in my experience, they will dispense the medication if you are seen.

Taking EC is not a guarentee that you will not get pregnant. I think it it about 85% effective. If you don't have a period within 2 weeks, you will need to be seen by a doctor. Please go to the web site, click on the information button and read about this and the side effects.

I would really be most comfortable if you would see a doctor, but I understand the unusual situation you are in.
