cysts

I have what appears to be a cyst under the skin of my vulva, in the pubic area. My gynecologist aspirated clear fluid from it and that fluid is now being analyzed by the cytology lab. I've had the cyst for more than a year and it seems to swell and recede during the course of a week. Presently, the cyst seems more swollen and harder than usual. My GYN says it's not a swollen lymph node. What are these cysts typically and how do they develop? Is the fact that clear fluid was aspirated fluid indicate that this is a benign condition? Are these types of cysts common?
