Low Body Fat / Diet and Menstrual CycleFrom: Abbie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 16 May 2001 13:36:19 -0500 (CDT)
About 3 years ago I started taking Ortho-Tricyclene, and had very 'normal' cycles. I stopped taking it for about three months, then started back up again. When I stopped taking the pill, I stopped getting my period. My doctor said this was normal, and to give it some time. I started taking the pill again about 10 months ago. Ever since however, my periods have been very irregular. I start my period right on time every month, however the week (sometimes two weeks) preceding when I start my period, my mucous changes, usually with some traces of blood - but it lasts for up to 10 days before I actually start my period. I'm very fit (alot of weight lifting and running), with low body fat (around 12%), (had higher body fat % when I was on the pill initially) and I'm not sure this may have something to do with the irregularities. I hope someone out there has an answer! Not sure if I should switch birth control pills. It is very disheartening having to wear some sort of 'protection' for a few weeks a month. Any advice would be wonderful!
