Re: endometrial AblationFrom: Aly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 8 May 2001 14:48:42 -0500 (CDT)
I had an endometrial ablation on March 19 of this year after bleeding for 132 consecutive days. I have always had horrible periods and have tried everything from several different kinds of the pill to the depo shot to decrease the bleeding. The ablation for me was a chance to end this constant bleeding without having to have a hysterectomy. I can't tell you about risks,(although with the balloon ablation, which I had, I believe they are minimal) but I can tell you my personal experience. I was told 1 to 2 days off from work. I found that I was not ready at that point and took off 4 days. The pain the day of the procedure was fairly extreme, but the Dr. gave me percocet which I took for about 2 1/2 days. I spotted for about 3 days after the procedure and then got my period on the 21st of April. This lasted for 5 days but was so light that I could just wear a panty liner. Unbelievable to me as my periods usually lasted 7 to 10 days with such extreme bleeding that I would hate to leave the house for the first two days. My doctor said that the literature will tell you that this is successful in 80% of the cases. He feels that's not accurate - that 60-65% is probably more realistic. So far I am very glad to have done it. Just to stop bleeding after 132 days was such a relief, but if my periods stay as this last one did I will be very happy. Good Luck. Pl
