Re: excessive pubic hair growthFrom: Rebecca (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 7 May 2001 23:11:00 -0500 (CDT)
I know that because of my Eastern European lineage, it is not surprising that I have a lot of body hair. But in the last 6 months, out of nowhere, my pubic hair started growing in places it never did before! I now have pubic hair encroaching onto my buttocks, WAY above the anus, in the same kinds of places that my male partners have had it. Now it's at the point of my cocyx (spelling?) bone. And it has expanded beyond the 'dividing line' between the buttocks, so now when I stand naked, I can't hide it. In the last two months I went off the pill (triphasil) and an anti-depressant (serzone). My ob/gyn didn't think that the pill was causing the problem, but I wasn't so convinced. I don't remember if one of the side effects of serzone was extra hair growth...I'll have to check. About 6-8 years ago, I found out that I have a slightly raised level of testosterone. But the doctor looked me over, asked me some questions, and didn't find that the higher level was having any adverse affects on me, and left the issue alone. But maybe I should have gone on hormone therapy back then? I know that Americans are so used to magazine stereotypes, that men & women both expect women's bodies to look like pre-pubescent girls...but that pubic hair, in all its variations, is really very normal. And I've always been comfortable with the already large amounts of hair I have. But what's going on with my body now seems extraordinary. And I'm way past puberty - I'm 28 years old. Or do lots of women have thick pubic hair on their buttocks & lower back? Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks.
