Abdominal Distension

I am a 32 year old woman who has had juvenile diabetes for 24 years. My diabetes is very well controlled and my blood sugars stay between 125-145. I am 5'5" and currently weigh 124 lbs.

For the past two months now I have had abnormal abdominal distension. I look like I am about 4 months pregnant. I have weighed 128 for the past 8 months now. Last week I weighed 128, this week 124. I can feel gas moving around in my stomach a lot and do pass gas, but not every time I feel it moving around. I have taken GasX for 2 weeks every day BID, but it did not help me at all with the bloating.

I went to my Gyno yesterday and she did a pelvic on me. She said that insulin is causing my stomach to distend because it is a growth hormone. I have had diabetes for 24 years and I have never heard of this before. I know you can gain weight when taking insulin, but never heard of stomach distension with no weight gain at all. I am worried about cysts and tumors.

Can you please give me any information on causes of abdominal distension? I have had a normal period every month with no problems and have done two home pregnancy tests that said negative. I am scheduled for a Pelvic Ultrasound in a week. Any information you can give me would be helpful. I know there is something wrong and I believe my Gyno was very wrong in what she told me.

Thank you very much.
