6 months of intermittent spotting

the past 6 months i've had intermittent spotting between periods. on average it happens every other cycle and lasts a few days. it started when i had sex with a new partner (i have not had sex since then). at that time my gyn found a cervical polyp she thinks was bleeding. (it's not a normal polyp with a stalk, it's a blob she assumes is a polyp.) i've tested negative for chlamydia and all paps have been normal, including 2 since this started. an ultrasound of my vagina and uterus (~6 months ago) showed nothing (polyp was too small to appear). the last time i went to the gyn (2 cycles ago) i had been spotting for 2 weeks (my longest); she didn't think the polyp was bleeding and that maybe my hormones were imbalanced. i've had two 50-day cycles during this 6 months (due to stress) so i've been a bit out of whack but otherwise had normal length cycles.

other history: i have had a few bouts of several-month-long monthly yeast infections i treated with boric acid suppositories. last bout finished around the time the bleeding first started.

my dr's have seemed unconcerned, but i am concerned and want to know the cause. do i chalk it up to possible bleeding polyp or hormonal issues or is it time (after 6 months) to verify what it is? (and how?) is there anything else bad it could be that we've missed? STD? uterine cancer? have the infections or boric acid harmed me somehow?

i am 32, not on the pill, don't smoke, healthy, take good care of myself, and other than the above i have no other symptoms. thanks so much for your help.
