Anesthesia for hysterectomy

I'm 50, have complex hyperplasia atypia, and I'm obese. I had a d&c, and the Dr. is planning on performing a complete hysterectomy in three weeks. My problem: I can't handle the after effects of the general anesthesia. This is the second time I've had general anesthesia, and enough time had passed from the first that I'd forgotten just how bad the experience had been. I can't rest afterwards until the anesthesia is completely out of my system. My response to this is visceral - I'd rather take my chance with cancer than have to go through the nightmare and depression of general anesthesia. The last time the depression lasted for more that a year, and I told my husband I'd much rather die than have g.a. again, and I truly was not being dramatic. I suffer from insomnia, and was told that some people have a reaction like this. I just know I'm NOT willing to experience it again. Interestingly, I took half of a 15 mg. of temazepam the night after the d&c, and my depression lifted, I was calm and could think. Read up on my condition and what can be done. I'm willing to lose the weight as fast as possible so I can have a spinal block, and a drug to relax me. Could megace give me six months to lose the weight? What's considered the proper weight for a block? Considered surgical acupuncture, but doubt I can find someone with those skills locally. This really has me spinning, cannot deal with the thought of general anesthesia again. I'm not at all afraid of the surgery, have no attachments to "parts that don't work".
