Re: painful exams

You can tell the dr to stop the exam when it starts to become painful, but here's something that I did when I had a pelvic exam in Feb: asked for lidocaine to numben the area and when it took effect I felt much better. When the exam was over and my dr told me that I had bacterial vaginosis then I knew why I had the amount of pain I did.

I will also admit at the same time that part of the pelvic pain for me was endometriosis related. And if that wasn't enough I also have vulvodynia which can also make these exams painful.

But as I said to start out with you can try asking for numbing agent but also let the dr know that you are asking them to stop b/c it hurts.

Here's an excellent site: http://www.gyn101.com. There are some tips there on how to make the exam less uncomfortable.

I hope that this helps.
