LSA and melanomaFrom: AK (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 28 Apr 2001 16:19:08 -0500 (CDT)
16 years ago I was diagnosed with lichen sclerosus (LSA) of the vulva by biopsy. I was put on testosterone ointment for years which did not help the skin condition, but did cause masculinization, so it was discontinued. I've been on cortisone cream now for about 5 years and have had many biopsies over time. I have the obliteration, scarring, and fusion that is typical of late stage LSA, with severe vulvodnyia and nerve pain. Last week my gyn found what she suspects may be a melanoma. Biopsy is scheduled. I've had all kinds of blood tests this week for hormonal levels, thyroid, etc. Would like to know what is the typical treatment and outcome for vulvar melanoma?
