HMG is basically FSH. HCG is basically LH. FSH causes the follicle containing the egg to grow and to produce estrogen. The at the right time in the cycle, there is a surge of LH which causes the ripe egg to be released. Giving HMG for several days and then giving HCG is a way of simulating the normal process to get one to ovulate. I don't know the significance of the day 3 FSH measurement. I do know there is something about it being predictive of being able to successfully bring about ovulation, but I don't know about what levels mean what. Ask your Doc to explain.
