'Band-Aid' BCP pill at beginning of cycle after prescription ran outFrom: Lina (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 18 Apr 2001 11:03:11 -0500 (CDT)
I'm on Loestrin Fe 1/20 and didn't realize I had no more refills on my prescription until it was the weekend before I was to start a new pack and, of course, the doctor's office was closed. I was worried about not starting on my usual Sunday night, so I took one of the first week's pills of an older (but not expired) pack of Ortho Tri-Cyclen (I quit using that due to very heavy breakthrough bleeding). The next day, I got my prescription refilled and took my "Sunday" Loestrin by noon. I took my Monday Loestrin at the usual time (~10:00 p.m.) The Tuesday of my second week, I began breakthrough bleeding. This is not uncommon for me--I generally have spotting every second or third month or so on this pill, sometimes for several days. I bled light, but continuously, for the next week. Through this whole cycle, I've been taking my pills as usual, not missing any or taking any late (except that first one). Now, I'm on the Wednesday of my "period" week, and still haven't started bleeding. I can remember having late bleeding when I've had extended breakthrough bleeding on previous cycles, but I can't help but worry that my taking of that one Ortho Tri-Cyclen may have been a bad idea (well-intentioned, but not smart). Do I need to be worried about pregnancy or any other adverse affects? I'm going through some stressful things right now, so I also realize this could be affecting my cycle. I'd just like some advice and reassurance on whether I should be worried and, whether I should not use the Ortho Tri-Cyclen white pills as "band-aids" should this happen again.
