Re: Stop the breeding.From: Mici (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 16 Apr 2001 23:59:22 -0500 (CDT)
I'm not sure if your opinion displayed here is displaced frustration with friends or family who are asking why you are not a mother yet or if you believe you have a call to point out the evils of child bearing. But I will say this, unless you are a 55 year old single woman, do not think your life is set. You do not know WHERE your heart will be in 5 or 10 years when you might be yearning for a child. Children are not a replacement for your own life, but the greatest of enhancements. Many people have climbed the ladder of success only to find that money did not bring them the happiness they so coveted. Freedom is a state of mind, not how many destinations happen to be on your passport. Sure, some get a bit wrapped up in the Mommy role, but if that isn't for you, find another group to chat "clubbing" or whatever with and everyone will be happy. This is total immersion in babyhood is not the case, however, with all new mommies, take my word on that one. If the women involved are CEO's, IT managers, or news comentators, I'm sure you may be able to find something facinating in what they have to say even though the sentiment may not be mutual. I'm sorry if you have lost some dear friend or another to "mommiehood" (as has happened to me many times as well) but try to accept that people, including yourself, will change for many different reasons not just becoming parents. Change is the only constant. I do hope you will stay away from the "men" who are married with families and still propositioning you. They are clearly losers of the worst kind and do not have your best interest at heart. Do not believe their lies about the importance of money or power. In the end, you may find that they also have neither. If there were a list (which unfortunately there is not) of things we do not need more of, I personally would put ax murderers, lying politicians, skyscrapers, and nuclear waste facilities far above wanted childen. I do not presume to tell you what to do with your life, do me and all the other women on this forum the same honor. Best of luck, Mici
