exams for pelvic pain

Good evening, everyone. I have been experiencing pelvic pain for several years and my physician doesn't really know what to do about it. After a lot of research on the web, I have decided it is time to go to an ob/gyn who has an interest in pelvic pain. Although I am 33 years old and have had a few exams, they are always painful for me. Because of the pain, I usually don't go in for annual exams and wait until the pelvic pain is unbearable before I go in for treatment. I'm asuming that with seeing a new ob/gyn, he will want to do an exam. Is there any way to make this the least painful as possible? How do I go about telling him my fears of these exams? I have never been sexually abused or anything like that, I think it is mainly that with each exam being painful, I have more fear of the next one. How do I break this cycle? Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.
