Speaking as a patient and not as an NP, I had the same experience the one time I used the old US-marketed sponge. It seemed to be some sort of allergic reaction, although I've never had a problem with any spermicides or other contraceptive method. It cleared and never recurred, but it was severe enough and uncomfortable enough that I sought urgent care. Anyone else with similar experience?
