HysterectomyFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netMon, 19 Mar 2001 15:49:21 EST
Iam 46 years old. I have had uterine fibroids for about 10 years. At first I didn't have any problems with the fibroids but later started having abdominal cramps. I was told that the cramps came from colitis. I was not given any medication. These cramps continued for several years than stopped. I changed doctors 3 years ago. When I had my annual exam, he noticed my uterus to be considerable large, comparable to a 4 month pregnancy. I had started having lower abdominal pains again and was given naproxen. The pains became more frequent, and my menstrual cycle became irratic. I didn't severe bleeding but I have a slight case of anemia. My fibroids have enlarged some and a new one has developed now I have 4, 3 fairly large and one small. My abdomen has swollen quite a bit. My cycles don't start unless I take provera. On my last exam, I had developed small cysts on top of the ovaries. I don't know the type. I have had more than one opinion. Three doctors said I should have the hysterectomy and two said to wait. I have gained considerable weight with the provera and have hypertension. I do not have any children by choice and have never been pregnant. What is your suggestion?
