Secondary Amenorrhea & InfertilityFrom: Michelle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 19 Mar 2001 14:19:06 -0600 (CST)
I have only had one period (menses) in the last 4 years but none completely in the last 3 years. I also suffer with excess hair on my body and i carry most of weight around my middle. Loosing weight has always been difficult. I have just had a full hormone profile (Liver,Kidney,Renal,Glucose,LH,FSH,Prolactin,SHBG,etc)completed twice in the last 3 months. The results of which were normal for the second test but the first test showed slightly low levels of SHGB and oestrogen. I have also had an Trans Vaginal Ultrasound which came back normal. My doctor has reffered me to an Endocrinologist but I have to wait 14 weeks for the appointment and in the mean time i'm worried i won't ever be able to have kids. I really don't want go on the pill for this. In the last 12 years i have been on the pill 3 times and everytime i came off it I had even longer between bleeds, aswell as terrible PMS side effects. (i.e. mood swings, tearfulness, sadness, etc,etc ) At the moment i'm experiencing several weeks at a time of PMS symptoms and in the next few months I'm planning on starting a family. Can anyone tell me what i expect next in the way of possible treatment, tests or the way forward? Thank you!
