By performing a cone biopsy, a portion of the outer cervix, as well as a portion of the cervical canal is removed. It is all analyzed following the procedure to assure that the findings noted on pap/colposcopy are identified and removed on the cone specimen. This does not mean that you will need a hysterectomy...
