It can be perimenopausal changes, thyroid abnormalities or real panic
attacks. Your doctor is right that if the estrogen level is normal,
doing the menopause tests(FSH and LH) may not be revealing. If the
thyroid tests are normal, a trail with birth control pills may be
helpful (if you give up cigarettes first, of course).
