concerns about cervical dysplasiaFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSat, 10 Mar 2001 13:29:27 -0600 (CST)
I was diagnosed with cervical dysplasia nine years ago. I had the LEEP procedure done immediately after and all of my pap smears have been fine since. I have been researching the relationship between HPV and cervical dysplasia and I'm getting a little nervous about what I have been reading. I can not remember if I was actually tested for HPV and now I am wondering how serious this condition is and how it affects my "sex life". I have read that a majority of sexually active females test positive for HPV. Is this true? If it is, why do some women develop dysplasia while others don't ever even know they have it? If condoms do not fully protect my partner from getting HPV and this is something that I will have for the rest of my life, what actions (if any) should/can I take to protect my partner? Should I be contacting my doctor to see if I was ever tested for HPV? How serious is this disease? Am I too worried?
