The correct terminology is just "atypical cells". These are cells that the pathologist can't absolutely call abnormal, but he can't also call them completely normal. Because of this, the recommendation is often to simply repeat the pap smear either immediately or in a matter of a few months. Most of the time, they are not of big concern, but I certainly would get the repeat pap... Lynn
