Sharon, I concur! One challenge is the lack of regulation of the creams sold in the health food store. It's impossible to know for sure if they contain the compounds that they advertise on their labels. There are progesterone-like substances in Mexican wild yam, (not to be confused with potatoes or sweet potatoes or yams from the grocery store). It's not clear that enough of the substance can be absorbed through the skin to become usable to your body. Women on estrogen replacement therapy who have been advised to use progesterone for 10, 14, or 30 days per month should be advised that these creams are not likely to do the job for which the progesterone was prescribed. Natural-source progesterone by prescription is available; if you feel strongly that you'd like to pick the source of the hormone, ask your gynecological health care provider about this option. This prescription can be used safely in conjunction with estrogen replacement. I hope that helps. Please write again if you have further questions.
