5 Month Period/D&C/Hysteroscopy: Need Information Please.

I have had a period for 5 months. Usually 3 weeks on and 3 days off. I have had hormone tests-all fine, 4 pregnancy tests-all negative, an endemetrial biopsy-negative, I have had a vaginal ultrasound that showed a lot of mass tissue in my uterus. The doctor said it looked like an early pregnancy but no baby just mass. Since all the tests were negative and I had a tubal ligation in 1998, she decided to do a D&C and a hysteroscopy. I need some information on these procedures. I am 24 years old, have had had two vaginal births, both normal. I have been bleeding very heavily now for these last 7 days. Very red and very thick. More than I've ever had with any period including these last 5 months of constant bleeding. Also, since all this heavy bleeding, I have had what feels to me as contractions in my stomach. Sort of like at the beginning of labor when your not sure if that's what it is or not. but I remember the feeling. It sort of takes my breath away. I'm not pregnant. Can you tell me what they might be looking for? What happens during a D&C and a hysteroscopy? Will they be painful? Will I bleed more afterwards? Will it stop this ongoing period? Please respond soon. It is scheduled in two weeks and I want to be prepared. Also so I'll know what questions to ask during Pre-op. thanks, so much.
