Teresa,

In my experience, Colonoscopies require a bowel prep to be done. Sigmoidoscopies, depending on the Dr. and what they are looking for, don't always require one. Sometimes they want two Fleet's Enema's done prior to the Sig.

Crohn's can affect areas higher up in the large intestines as well as the lower parts.

I would suggest you call the GI that did the procedure and ask him/her about what exactly was done (colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy). Let him/her know that you are concerned due to what you have learned regarding bowel preps, etc.

Was the procedure done in the hospital or outpatient surgery facility, or was it done in his office? Did you have sedation?

Hope this helps.
